Headteacher of Curledge Street Academy

Jessica took up her second headship at Curledge Street Academy in 2010.  Prior to that Jessica was the Headteacher of a small rural primary school near Dawlish and has worked in several different schools in the local area; all presenting varied opportunities. Jessica lives with her husband and her German Shepherd and has two daughters aged 21 and 23. Jessica says she enjoys working in such a lovely area, where the sea and moors are within close proximity. “Our children benefit from this as we can give them wonderful outdoor experiences.“

Mark Smith

Mark Smith

Head of School at Paignton Community and Sports Academy

Mark has 34 years experience working in education including 31 years at Paignton. He has held a variety of posts at the Academy including Head of Year, Assistant Principal and Deputy Principal. Two of Mark’s four children went to the Academy including one who then went on to University. Mark is a keen golfer, footballer and cyclist and he is passionate about the students experiencing a variety of extra-curricular experiences to support their academic studies.

Suzie Franklin

Headteacher of Kings Ash Academy

Suzie has 28 years experience working in education. She has worked in a variety of schools including small rural schools in Lincolnshire as well as large urban schools. She had two headships in Lincolnshire before moving to Torbay in 2006. Suzie joined Torbay as a Primary Adviser working for the Local Authority and was Head of Schools until 2014. Suzie has a particular interest in children’s mental and emotional health and has a certificate in Children’s Emotional Literacy and is a trained THRIVE practitioner. Suzie is passionate about working with children and families to ensure that they have the best possible opportunities. In 2014 she took up the post of Headteacher at Kings Ash Academy as she was keen to get back into school where she could work more closely with staff to make a difference to the lives of children and young people. Suzie has 3 children of her own and a grandchild. Suzie has a much loved miniature wirehaired dachshund called Boris who is very spoilt indeed!
