Year 7/8 Basketballers Secure CVL Win

On Thursday 18th January, the Year 7 and 8 Basketball team were victorious in their first Central Venue League of the calendar year.

Having performed well in their previous outing at Spires College towards the end of last term, the team were to enhance their experience of competitive Basketball further against two organised and well coached opponents in Trinity School and the highly regarded Churston Ferrers Grammar School, and were to perform incredibly well in both of their fixtures.

The first game of the competition saw the team compete admirably against Churston Ferrers Grammar School, as they turned around a 10 point half time deficit to draw 17-17.

A strong second half performance, led by captain Tim Alanis, saw the PCSA team outscore their opponents by 5 baskets to 2, with only an extremely harsh refereeing decision holding the team back from securing a last gasp victory, after the excellent Jack Dorothy was judged to have stepped over the free throw line when executing the match winning shot.

The boys in yellow went on to follow up their impressive showing against Churston, with a hard fought victory over a highly physical Trinity School team.

The team showed great resilience once again, as they came back from their second half time deficit of the evening to secure all three points.

A 12 point haul in the second half against Trinity saw the team victor by just a single point, winning the contest 17-16, after some sharp shooting from Bailey Dixon, Dorothy and Alanis, and some excellent support play from Leo Mullings.

The team’s success in these games meant that they finished on top of the Central Venue League table, which is a fantastic achievement for the newly formed team.

Great work, boys!
